26 June 2003 12:50 Chechnya`s acting president to take personal charge of property compensation Groznyy, 26 June: Each Chechen family that lost its home and other property during hostilities will be entitled to a
compensation of R350,000. Compensation payments will begin in September, to be carried out in two stages. Of the 36,000
affected families, about 80 will be able to receive compensation already this year, Chechnya's acting President
Akhmad Kadyrov said on local television.
Kadyrov promised he would control the compensation payments process in person to ensure the government aid should
reach specific recipients.
