12 June 2003 15:33 Malaysia - EIS launches Internet service with Jaring Electronics Information Systems (EIS) (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam), telecoms company, will launch the first Internet
service in Malaysia which enables users to access various services using a single phone services. Customers will have
one number for calls, messages, E-mails and faxes around the world. EIS has signed a franchise agreement with Jaring
(Malaysia), Internet company, to launch the One-Connection service in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 12 June 2003. EIS was
launched in Singapore in February 2003. Jaring has around one mil subscribers and aims to have up to 20k One-Connection
customers by end-2003. The terms of the franchise agreement call for Jaring to pay EIS USDlr100k/y, with Jaring keeping
20-25% of revenue generated. EIS provides Internet-based phone services, franchising its services to companies such as
RusComNet (Russia) and VoiceNet (US). Meanwhile, EIS has launched Internet services in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam,
becoming the first private company in Vietnam to provide Internet services. EIS is also negotiating franchise agreements
with companies in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Australia. EIS posted net profit of Dong4.23 bil (USDlr277,023) for 2002,
up from Dong2.10 bil in 2001, on sales up to around USDlr8 mil, from USDlr5.24 mil.
