04 June 2003 13:40 Belarus has highest inflation in CIS in 2003 - Russian agency Moscow, 4 June: Belarus had the highest inflation among CIS nations in the first four months of 2003.
Consumer prices in Belarus rose 10.3 per cent, including 9.9 per cent for food and drink, 6.7 per cent for non-foods
and 15.3 per cent for services, the Interstate Statistics Committee of the CIS said.
Inflation was also high at 9.5 per cent in Tajikistan, where food prices rose 8.9 per cent, non-food 2.5 per cent and
services 31.3 per cent.
The lowest inflation was 0.6 per cent in Azerbaijan, where food gained 1 per cent in price, non-food prices were
unchanged and service charges fell 0.3 per cent.
Russia had inflation of 6.2 per cent in the four months. Food and drink prices were up 5.8 per cent, non-food prices
3.5 per cent and services 12.6 per cent.
Inflation was also 6.2 per cent in Moldova, including 8.3 per cent for food, 3.4 per cent for non-food and 5.4 per
cent for services.
Inflation was 4.5 per cent in Ukraine, 4.2 per cent in Armenia, 3 per cent in Kyrgyzstan and 2.1 per cent in each of
Kazakhstan and Georgia.
The statistics committee did not give inflation for Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan.
