Chechnya`s unemployment rate stands at 180,000 - Russian labour minister
[No dateline, as received] Some 180,000 people are receiving unemployment benefits in the Chechen Republic, Russian Labour Minister Aleksandr Pochinok has told Ekho Moskvy radio. The number of those on the dole is expected to reach 250,000 in the near future, which means that one of four Chechnya residents will be officially registered jobless, Pochinok said. Only 70,000 people were receiving unemployment benefits in Chechnya in 2002, he went on to say, admitting that despite of the increasing number of jobs, many people are still unemployed.
