Russian unemployment figures down in April
Moscow, 23 May: Unemployment in Russia reduced in April by 1.6 per cent to 6.3m people - 8.9 per cent of the economically active population, Prime TASS reports. According to State Statistics Committee data, registered unemployment in April was up 0.3 per cent on the month to 1.63m. At the same time Russia's overall unemployment increased by 11 per cent on the year (official unemployment, by 8.2 per cent). Russia's economically active population at the end of April was estimated at 70.9m - about half of the country's population. Of all those employed as at last March 62.1 per cent worked for major and medium-size enterprises.
