22 May 2003 16:52 Police in Russian city of Samara seize large consignment of heroin Moscow, 22 May: Samara police officers have seized a large batch of heroin, a source at the Russian Interior Ministry
told ITAR-TASS on Thursday [22 May].
Police operatives had received a tip a drugs trafficker was expected to arrive at the city soon. The suspect, a
jobless man 40 years of age, was detained on Wednesday. His car was searched and over 6 kg of heroin confiscated. An
investigation is under way. Police are trying to find out where the drug was brought from.
The police have managed to plug a major channel of heroin supply to the Volga Federal District.
According to the Interior Ministry, big supplies of drugs have been seized in 13 instances in 12 Russian regions over
the past day - over 7 kg of heroin, 1 kg of marijuana and 500 g of hashish.
