18 April 2003 19:39 Statistics agency posts Russia's latest jobless figures Moscow, 18 April: The total number of unemployed people in Russia stood at 5,975,000 in March, down 2.2 per cent on
the month and up 2.7 per cent on the year, according to data provided by the State Statistics Committee and obtained by
Prime-TASS on Friday [18 April].
The figures were calculated according to the methodology used by the International Labour Organization.
The number of officially registered jobless people stood at 1,628,000 in the same period, up 0.4 per cent on the
month and 10.1 per cent on the year. This includes 229,000 people in Chechnya.
The total number of unemployed people accounted for 8.4 per cent of Russia's total labour force. Russia's
labour force was estimated at 71.5m as of the end of March, which is about half the country's total population, the
committee said.
