17 April 2003 17:01 Sibir considers change of name Russian airline Sibir is reportedly considering changing its name and rebranding its image in an effort to attract
more passengers.
Airline officials believe that the word 'Sibir' is tied too closely to the region of Siberia, which
foreigners allegedly associate with temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius, vodka, barbed wire and the gulag.
In other news, Sibir is reported to have effectively taken control of Armenian airline Armavia. Sibir owns 70% of
Armavia, which has become the main carrier in Armenia after the collapse of state-owned Armenian Airlines.
