A telephone conversation took place today between Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Jacques Chirac of France.
In discussing the developments in the situation around Iraq, the similarity of Russia's and France's stands, based on the priority of politico-diplomatic methods of resolving the Iraq problem, was reaffirmed.
The Heads of State exchanged views on the efforts being made in this direction. Putin and Chirac spoke for the continuation of coordination and cooperation within the Security Council of the United Nations.
As an example of the broad international support of a peaceful solution of the Iraq problem, the unanimous opinion of the participants of the Thirteenth Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Nonaligned Movement, which has begun in Malaysia today, was noted with satisfaction.
