17 February 2003 00:00 ON DAYS OF RUSSIAN CULTURE IN CHINA AND SHANGHAI
At the beginning of this May Days of Culture of the Russian Federation will be held in Beijing and Shanghai. The protocol on holding the Russian art festival in the PRC was signed in Beijing between the culture ministries of the two countries as part of the visit of a working group of the Russian Ministry of Culture for preparation of the Days of Culture in the PRC.
About one hundred and sixty Russian artists, musicians and other cultural workers will arrive in China to participate in the festival. The State Academic Folk Dance Ensemble under Igor Moiseyev, the jazz orchestra under Georgy Garanyan, the State Kuban Cossacks' Chorus, and leading solo vocalists and instrumentalists, including International Tchaikovsky Competition laureates, will perform before Chinese audiences. Their performances will take place at the most prestigious concert sites of the Chinese capital - the Imperial Forbidden City, the concert halls Tianqiao, Baoli, and 21st Century.
As part of the Days of Russian Culture, at the capital's largest exhibition complex Millennium, there will open an art exhibition, at which several dozen famous paintings from the Tretyakov Gallery will be put on view. In addition, Russia will become the chief guest of the traditional annual international festival Meetings in Beijing.
