Question: Please comment on the reports that have appeared in the media to the effect that Russia intends to withdraw from the Peace Corps Agreement with the United States.
Answer: The Russian side is grateful for the assistance which the members of the US Peace Corps in Russia have rendered and positively assesses the cooperation experience amassed in this area. Now by virtue of the changed economic and social tasks facing our country we are engaged in consultations with the American side on the elaboration of new forms of partnership more adequate to the present-day situation. Accordingly, an extension of the Peace Corps Agreement with the United States is not being planned.
