26 December 2002 00:00 ALEXANDER YAKOVENKO, THE OFFICIAL SPOKESMAN OF RUSSIA'S MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, ANSWERS A QUESTION FROM AN EKHO MOSKVY RADIO STATION CORRESPONDENT
2675-26-12-2002
Question: What can you say regarding the judgment of the Supreme Court of Georgia concerning the extradition of the Chechen terrorists detained in August on the Georgian-Russian border?
Answer: On December 25 the Supreme Court of Georgia granted an appeal of the lawyers for the three Chechen gunmen detained in August upon crossing the Russian-Georgian border and declared a district court decision on their extradition of December 5 unlawful.
Thus, the obvious and clear question that the Chechen terrorists are subject to extradition is being "sunk" in a legal and judicial chicanery to which there is no end. All of this again shows that official Tbilisi in one way or another connives at and in essence plays into terrorists' hands.
This kind of line is obviously contrary to the Chisinau (October 6) agreements reached by the presidents of the two countries.
The Russian side continues to demand the immediate extradition of the gunmen accused of committing terrorist acts on Russian territory.
