15 December 2002 00:00 RUSSIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS IGOR IVANOV SPEAKS TO UN SECRETARY GENERAL KOFI ANNAN BY TELEPHONE
On December 13 Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Ivanov had a telephone conversation with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, in the course of which the two discussed the situation in the Middle East and around Cyprus.
They expressed their common view on the importance of continuing the Quartet's mediatory efforts aimed at a speediest return to normalcy and the resumption of the peace process in the Middle East. From this angle they examined questions relating to the elaboration under the Quartet's auspices of the Road Map for advance towards a comprehensive Middle East settlement, including the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Igor Ivanov and Kofi Annan affirmed the importance of continued international efforts in promoting a lasting and effective settlement in Cyprus in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and with regard to the recent proposals of the UN Secretary General on this issue.
