The Russian Ministry of Health is continuing work involving medical service to temporarily displaced persons from the Chechen Republic.
As before, the Ministry's field therapeutic hospital continues its work in Ordzhonikidzenskaya stanitsa in the Republic of Ingushetia. 249 patients received highly qualified medical assistance here over the past week (from November 14 to 21, 2002).
For reference: The field therapeutic hospital of Zashchita, a Ministry of Health relief agency, has been operating in the Republic of Ingushetia since February 5, 2001. According to Russian Emergency Situations Ministry data, 19,000 people, including 8,500 children, are accommodated in six temporary residence camps on the Ingushetia territory, and within the Chechen Republic sixteen temporary residence camps house 12,300 people, including 5,100 children.
Overall, in the North Caucasus area the Ministry's disaster medicine services have since October 2, 1999, provided medical assistance to more than 171,500 wounded and sick people, including more than 64,700 children and more than 3,400 servicemen.
To ensure the work of the North Caucasus institutions providing medical care and disease prevention - from October 1999 to November 2002 - 211.42 tons of medicines and other health care items (worth 55.71 million rubles) were supplied from the Russian Health Ministry's reserve, including 88.31 tons (worth 20,36 million rubles) for Chechnya's institutions.
