04 April 2002 00:00 RUSSIAN-BRITISH SEMINAR: PARLIAMENTARY LIBRARIES AS CENTERS OF SUPPORT OF LAW-MAKING (FROM THE NEWSLETTER DUMSKOYE OBOZRENIYE, NO. 40 (1194), MARCH 28, 2002)
A two-day Russian-British seminar on "Information Resources in Aid of Parliament Law-Making" co-sponsored by the British Council took place at the Oval Room of the All-Russian State Library of Foreign Literature.
Taking part in the seminar were Director of the Parliamentary Library Irina Andreyeva, Director of the British House of Commons Library Priscilla Baines, the head of the House of Commons Library Information Technology Service Catherine Owens, Director of the Parliamentary and Readers Service of the House of Commons Library Robert Twigger and members of the staff of the Russian Parliamentary Library.
In the course of the seminar the British side presented the Library of the British Parliament as a center of information support of law-making activities that provides information on the latest information technologies and their use in providing services to members of Parliament.
The topic of providing citizens with information on the activities of Parliament -- experience of organization and new trends -- was covered in detail.
An information meeting on "Parliamentary Library Management" (planning, norm-setting and marketing of the library) accompanied by a practical class on work with the British Parliament's Internet resources was held as part of the seminar.
