24 September 2002 00:00 ON THE HOLDING OF A MEETING OF THE DUMA-CONGRESS WORKING GROUP
A delegation of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia, made up of members of the subgroup on cooperation in the area of the fight against organized crime, corruption and terrorism: Security Committee Deputy Chairmen Mikhail Grishankov and Nikolai Kovalyov, and Defense Committee Deputy Chairman Yevgeny Zelenov, will take part in a meeting of the Duma-Congress Working Group to be held in Washington, USA, from September 22 to 28. The delegation is headed by the subgroup's chairman, Anatoly Kulikov, a Security Committee member.
"This will be a working trip. Within the framework of the meeting, we are to exchange views on the issues of combating organized crime, corruption and terrorism," Zelenov explained. "One can presuppose beforehand the opinion of the American side, especially on the issues of combating international terrorism. However I have agreed to this trip because I am convinced that Russia ought at all levels, here, there and everywhere, to declare its stand in questions of the fight against international terrorism. The double standards used by the US in resolving this problem are still in evidence, the only difference being that, compared to the previous years when the United States' stand on particular issues was at times plainly shocking, it now bears a more veiled character. It is time to bring that to an end."
The meeting, Zelenov stressed, will consider the problem of Iraq and as a special question "the Russian delegation intends to accentuate attention to the participation of Russian military units against terrorists operating from the territory of Georgia."
