ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRADE RELATIONS BETWEEN RUSSIA AND THE USA

Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Kasyanov described the US Department of Commerce decision to give the Russian economy the market status as a major step which will improve the trade relations between Russia and the United States. Now, in the words of Kasyanov, in examining trade disputes, US companies, as well as different local organizations and the central authorities will treat the Russian companies in the same way they treat companies from Great Britain or France. According to preliminary estimates of the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade, the decision of the US authorities to give Russia the status of a country with a market economy, will already during this year increase the receipts of domestic enterprises by 250-300 million dollars. Mikhail Kasyanov also said that the decision of the US administration will have a positive effect on the export of products of the Russian metallurgists. He explained that the current restrictions on shipments of metals from Russia have been introduced on the basis of the non-market status of our economy. The Chairman of the Government expressed the hope that now the Russian companies, to whom the restrictions applied, will be able to challenge the situation and establish new trade relations with their partners.
