Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov held working meetings in Johannesburg with the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands, Norway and Denmark.
In the course of his meeting with the Netherlands' Prime Minister, Jan Peter Balkenende, questions were discussed relating to the agricultural sphere and access for Russian farm products to European markets. In addition, the theme of farm subsidies in Europe and the world was touched upon.
The main topic of Kasyanov's conversation with Norway's Prime Minister, Kjell Magne Bondevik, was the Kyoto Protocol, as well as questions related to ecology, fisheries and the division of the Barents Sea shelf. The sides pointed to the necessity of developing closer cooperation in the energy sector because both Russia and Norway are interested in stable energy prices on world markets. Besides that, Kasyanov and Bondevik touched on NATO problems. The head of the Russian Government reaffirmed that Moscow's stand on the North Atlantic Alliance enlargement remains unchanged. The possibility of Norway's joining in the Global Partnership program, to assist Russia with the disposal of decommissioned nuclear submarines and the destruction of the stockpiles of chemical weapons, was also discussed in the course of the meeting.
In the course of the talks with Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Danish Prime Minister, Mikhail Kasyanov touched on the problem of the Kaliningrad oblast and the initiative of President Vladimir Putin for the visa-free movement of citizens of Russia and the EU. In addition, the sides discussed the questions of WTO, farm subsidies, the establishment of a common economic space, cooperation in the Baltic area and the North, as well as the questions of the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.
