On August 20 Oleg Chernov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, received US Under Secretary of State John Bolton.
During the talk, the sides discussed questions of coordination between Russia and the United States of America to reinforce strategic stability in the context of the Russian-American dialogue, started by the two countries' presidents in Ljubljana and continued in Genoa.
The Russian Security Council deputy secretary pointed out the urgent need to develop Russian-American relations on a stable and pragmatic basis with the consideration of mutual interests and the responsibility which lies with both countries.
In the opinion of Oleg Chernov, the joint quest for mutually acceptable solutions with respect to international security and strategic stability ought to be built on three basic principles: equal security, prevention of the emergence of new threats, and the primacy of international agreements.
