13 December 2002 17:12 Belarus wants to change name of union state with Russia Minsk, 13 December: The term "union state" should be replaced in the Constitutional Act of the Union State
of Russia and Belarus with "the Union of Belarus and Russia", Belarusian Foreign Minister Mikhail Khvastow
said at the parliamentary hearings on Belarusian-Russian integration held on 13 December in Minsk.
Khvastow remarked that "the work on the conceptual provisions of the constitutional act demonstrated that the
term `union state' is not fully in line with reality".

Khvastow stressed that Belarus and Russia should abide by the key principles of integration, namely sovereignty of
the participants and the "one country-one voice" decision-making mechanism.
