Poland starts separate talks with Russia on resuming meat exports
Last week Poland, as the only country of the European Union, started - with the European Commission's agreement - individual talks with Russia on continuing trade in meat and meat and dairy products. It was established that nearly 400 enterprises interested in exports to Russia would be ready at any time to undergo inspections by its veterinary services. This has been reported by Agriculture Minister Wojciech Olejniczak, who has been taking part in a meeting of the union Council for Agriculture in Luxembourg. The council discussed, among other things, a report from negotiations with Russia on veterinary certificates. On 1 June the Russian authorities had halted meat exports from union states and refused to recognize national veterinary certificates. After several days of intensive talks, the embargo was lifted. It was decided that the sides would try to find a solution by 30 September. Poland, without waiting for the end of the negotiations by the commission, last week started talks with Russia.
