21 June 2004 13:39 Russian complaint against European court rejected by Council of Europe Russia's accusations of corruption and ignorance of Russian laws against representatives of the European Court
of Human Rights have been rejected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe [PACE], our correspondent has
reported from Strasbourg.
PACE President Peter Schieder said the assembly had absolute trust and confidence in the court. Schieder said all
accusations against the European court were being rejected once and for all.
Let me recall that earlier Lyubov Sliska, deputy speaker of the Russian State Duma expressed her doubts about the
competence of the European court and suggested that the court was corrupt. She had in mind the case brought by [tycoon
Vladimir] Gusinskiy against Russia which our country had lost.
Pavel Laptev, Russia's plenipotentiary in the European Court of Human Rights, said the judges failed in their
knowledge of Russian amnesty laws.
