Russia to show latest weapons and night sights at China security expo
Moscow, 21 June: The federal state unitary enterprise Rosoboroneksport is to show the latest Russian weaponry and a broad range of personal-protection equipment and night sights at the China Police 2004 police hardware and weapons exhibition. The exhibition opens in Beijing on 23 June, a Rosoboroneksport source told ITAR-TASS today. Most of the firearms to be shown on Russian stands are already in service with Russian Federal Security Service and Interior Ministry commando units and are tried and tested in hostage-release and antiterrorist operations. Rosoboroneksport expects the VSK-94 and VSS marksman's rifles to draw particular interest. These are designed "to kill human targets in antifragmentation personal armour and in unarmoured vehicles and are used when fire has to be opened without sound or flash". Other weapons for the special services' armouries are the SR-1 self-loading pistol, the SR-2 machine pistol, the SR-3 small-sized rifle, the Bizon-2 and Bizon-2-01 machine pistols, and weapons for opening fire underwater. Among the innovations are several of the latest night-vision devices. "These devices are especially light and compact and provide optimal visibility at ranges of up to 700 metres in poor light and up to 250 metres in total darkness," Rosoboroneksport said.
