20 June 2004 20:01 Russia`s nuclear power chief hints at private investment initiative St Petersburg, 20 June: The head of the Federal Atomic Energy Agency, Aleksandr Rumyantsev, has confirmed that
"share issues by nuclear energy enterprises" is a possibility. He was speaking to ITAR-TASS at the
Konstantinovskiy Palace, the venue for the Global Energy prizegiving ceremony.
The industry's potential is far greater than the funding currently available from budget and off-budget sources
for future nuclear power construction, Rumyantsev said. So incorporation is on the agenda due to the realities. The
process is seen not as an end in its own right or a nod to the market but as a way of attracting Russian and foreign
investment. The first step, he said, could be "to incorporate enterprises that are not directly linked to servicing
hazardous nuclear installations", such as engine rooms, transformer substations, repair and maintenance services
and others.
