18 June 2004 07:41 Court rulings on Yukos may be carried out instantly - lawyer MOSCOW. June 18 (Interfax) - After the court makes a decision on the Tax Ministry's plea, and the court's
ruling on the ministry's first lawsuit against Yukos comes into effect, the money may be taken from Yukos very
quickly, the oil company's lawyer Sergei Pepelyayev told Interfax.
He said that in accordance with the law, the order to carry out a decision is given within five days after it has
been made.
The Tax Ministry may then send the order to banks holding Yukos's accounts, or request help from the
court's bailiffs. If Yukos does not have sufficient funds to pay the taxes and fines, the company's property
would be seized. "Judging by experience, the seizure may be done within an hour," Pepelyayev said.
At the same time, he said that Yukos's property will not be seized before the court makes a decision on the Tax
Ministry's plea to fine the company for back taxes, which is set for consideration on June 23.
The Tax Ministry accuses Yukos of evading taxes by the use of so- called domestic offshore accounts. The ministry
concluded its audit of Yukos's tax payments for 2000 on April 14. Following the inspection, the ministry demanded
that the company pay taxes and fines amounting to about 99.375 billion rubles. [RU EUROPE EEU EMRG ASIA CRIM] aa tl
