Payment of salary debts to Rostov workers begins
SHAKHTY (Rostov region). June 18 (Interfax) - The payment of salary arrears to participants in the hunger strike at the Shakhty mining equipment factory, which is a subsidiary Rostovugol company, began on Friday, the protesters' spokesman Viktor Salnikov told Interfax. "All financial issues were settled with the protesters, and the hunger strike will end once they receive the money," Salnikov said. The head of the Shakhty administration's information and analysis department, Nelly Posylnaya, told Interfax that 1.5 million rubles was transferred to the factory's account on Friday afternoon. "This money is more than enough to pay the debts to the protesters and the initiative group," Posylnaya said. She said that 34 people, including 22 participants in the hunger strike, 6 members of the initiative group, and 6 of the protesters' relatives, will receive the money. The total debt to these people is 1.25 million rubles. This hunger strike was the second stage of protests at the Shakhty plant. In early June, 16 workers began a hunger strike there, and wage debts were paid to them on June 9. On June 10, 22 more workers at the factory declared a hunger strike.
