18 June 2004 04:41 Russia ups iron ore production 6% MOSCOW. June 18 (Interfax) - Russian commodity iron ore production grew 6% year-on-year to 39.61 million tonnes in
January-May, Rudprom, the agency that collates statistics about ore producers, told Interfax.
Russia produced 2.41 million tonnes of agglomerate, up 19.1%; 37.49 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, up 4.8%;
and 14.28 million tonnes of pellets, an increase of 4.8%, Rudprom said.
All of Russia's biggest mines raised production. Output grew 4.9% at Lebedinsky GOK, although hot-briquette iron
production there dropped 1.4% to 450,500 tonnes. Production increased 8% at the Mikhailovsky GOK mine and 0.2% at
Stoilensky GOK.
CIS producers Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan raised iron ore production 5.4% to 73.78 million tonnes. Ukraine
increased production 5.1% to 26.76 million tonnes and Kazakhstan produced 7.4 million tonnes, up 3.4%. [RU ASIA EUROPE
