Another candidate announces Chechen presidential ambitions
GROZNY. June 18 (Interfax) - Grozny resident Roza Vakhitova has officially notified the Chechen Elections Commission of her intention to run for president, which increases the number of potential candidates to 12, elections commission chairman Abdul-Kerim Arsakhanov told Interfax. Vakhitova, 50, a graduate of the Leningrad State Theater, Music, and Cinematography Institute, is currently unemployed, Arsakhanov said. Vakhitova is a self-nominated candidate. To receive official registration as a presidential candidate, she will have to collect the signatures of about 6,000 voters, or 1% of all eligible Chechen voters, Arsakhanov said. Chairman of the Chechen State Council Taus Dzhabrailov told Interfax on Thursday that he believes at least 20 candidates will aspire to the post. [RU EUROPE ASIA EEU EMRG VOTE POL PRO VIO] va aw
