Russia decides to write off Mongolia`s debt
Ulaanbaatar, 19 June: Russian-Mongolian trade and economic relations have reached a new stage, and the Russian government is now ready to invest in the Mongolian economy, Russian Minister of Agriculture Aleksey Gordeyev said here today following his talks with his Mongolian counterpart [Minister of Infrastructure] Byambyn Jigjid, Prime Minister Nambaryn Enhbayar and President Natsagiyn Bagabandi. "We rate highly the economic policy conducted by the current government, especially as the main problem, - the problem of a so called great debt - has been settled," Gordeyev said. He said Russia viewed relations with Mongolia from a long-term perspective and in fact, thereby, decided to write off the debt of 11bn dollars. "Seeing the Mongolian government's reliability, the Russian government is launching such a stage in which we are ready to invest in the Mongolian economy, to support the inflow of Russian capital here, above all that of private business, to set up joint ventures and to step up integration processes," the minister said.
