U.S. looks become big Russian liquefied gas buyer - Yazev
YEKATERINBURG. June 17 (Interfax) - The United States want to be buying up to 25-30 million tonnes of liquefied natural annually from Russia by 2015, head of the State Duma energy, transport and communications committee Valery Yazev said Thursday. Russia is not now shipping this kind of gas to the United States, Yazev said at a press conference in Yekaterinburg about his working visit to the U.S. "They are not trying to impose their view on the courts, but want public openness and transparency," he said. An open process is a Russia could reap an additional $3 billion for its budget shipping this gas to the United States, he pointed out. That money could be used for building plants that liquefy gas, for prospecting and developing deposits, for building transportation networks in the oil and gas complex, he said. The United States is planning to build liquefied gas storage facilities on the Atlantic Seaboard, Yazev noted. As to his meetings with U.S. authorities and businessmen, Yazev said that Americans are worried about investing in Russia and want to see the Yukos process be more open and public. necessity, the Americans feel, for there to be confidence there are no hidden political overtones, he added.
