18 June 2004 18:07 Azeri, Russian economic agencies sign cooperation memo [Presenter] The president of the Russian Chamber of Trade and Industry, Yevgeniy Primakov, arrived in Azerbaijan and
met President Ilham Aliyev today.
Mr Aliyev said that Baku attached special importance to the strengthening of Russian business in Azerbaijan and
viewed this as a vital factor in the development of economic ties.
[Reporter over video of meeting] President Ilham Aliyev said he was pleased to see the president of the Russian
Chamber of Trade and Industry, Yevgeniy Primakov, in Azerbaijan. The president said that relations between the two
countries had been strengthening over the past years. He did not conceal that he was especially satisfied with the level
of economic ties.

between our countries. We are working jointly on a number of energy projects. Russian business is strengthening its
positions in Azerbaijan. We attach special importance to this.
[Reporter] Ilham Aliyev stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Baku and the late Azerbaijani
President Heydar Aliyev's visit to Moscow had played a special role in the development of relations.
In turn, Yevgeniy Primakov informed Ilham Aliyev that Russia was also pleased with the development of relations with
Azerbaijan. Mr Primakov stressed that after his arrival in Baku, he first visited national leader Heydar Aliyev's
grave.

paid tribute to the spirit of Heydar Aliyev whom I respect greatly, and I bowed to his grave. Everyone in Russia, both
the political circles and the population, welcome the continuation of Heydar Aliyev's policies in Azerbaijan.
[Reporter] Speaking about the goal of his visit, Yevgeniy Primakov stressed that according to the results of the
talks, a cooperation agreement would be signed with the Azerbaijani Chamber of Trade and Industry. This agreement will
help the business circles and businessmen of the two countries boost ties, end quote.
[Presenter] A cooperation memorandum was signed between the Russian and Azerbaijani Chambers of Trade and Industry
today. After the signing ceremony, Yevgeniy Primakov said that this framework agreement would outline directions for
cooperation between the two structures. He noted that at the current stage of the market economy, public structures and
business representatives should be given more powers.
