Putin`s advisor calls for partial withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya
The situation in Chechnya makes it possible for superfluous units of federal troops to be withdrawn from the republic, Aslanbek Aslakhanov, an adviser to the [Russian] president [Vladimir Putin] believes. He thinks that the Chechen police have recently begun to work more effectively. They are becoming more active in fulfilling their direct responsibility - fighting crime - Aslakhanov told Interfax. Aslakhanov said that two favourites in the Chechen presidential election campaign had already emerged. He named these as [Chechen Interior Minister] Alu Alkhanov and [businessman] Malik Saydullayev.
