NORWAY GRANTS 38 OIL AND GAS PRODUCTION LICENCES
On June 8, the Norwegian Government granted 38 new production licences, or concessions, for 16 sites to 16 international oil and gas companies. These included French groups Total and Gaz de France (GdF), which were left empty-handed at the last round of concessions in December. Sixteen operating licences were awarded to: Statoil (4 licences), Norsk Hydro (2), Shell (2), ENI (2), Total (1), Pertra (1), Paladin Resources (1), Esso (1), ChevronTexaco (1) and RWE Dea (1), announced Norwegian Minister for Oil and Energy, in a press release. In addition, 22 licence interests were offered to: Statoil (5), Norsk Hydro (2), Shell (2), ENI (2), BDG (2), Gaz de France (2), ChevronTexaco (1), RWE Dea (1), Pertra (1), DONG (1), Amerada Hess (1), Idemitsu (1) and Revus (1). Norway is the third largest exporter of oil world-wide, after Saudi Arabia and Russia.
