PeopleSoft Enters Russian Market
U.S.-based business software giant PeopleSoft announced plans Thursday to launch a Russian version of its popular EnterpriseOne application and to establish a Moscow office that will serve as headquarters for the company's operations in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. "When I look at all of our opportunities now and where we're investing, across Eastern Europe, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Russia is really the most important marketplace for us," said managing director Jeffrey Read. Some IT experts called PeopleSoft's entry into Russia overdue. PeopleSoft's biggest competitor, Germany's SAP, has been in Russia for more than a decade. "It's about time," said Steve Rabette, director of Moscow-based FastNet Solutions. "It would seem that [PeopleSoft] has been neglecting this corner of the market." The Russian version of EnterpriseOne, a software solution for medium-sized to large manufacturing and asset-intensive companies, will be available in the third quarter of 2004, Read said. .TX-..**********************************************
