Expenditures on state defense contracts to increase in 2005
MOSCOW. June 16 (Interfax) - Expenditures on state defense contracts written in the 2005 federal budget are expected to go up by 43-45 billion rubles, a Russian Finance Ministry official told reporters ahead of the June 17 government session, which will discuss the main parameters of the 2005 federal budget. The ministry official pointed out that the funding for state defense contracts has been increasing over the past few years. "The next year will not be an exception and the expenditures [on defense contracts] are expected to rise by 43-45 billion rubles," the official said. This money will be used for developing the defense industry, investment, research and development, and military purchases. In addition, the 2005 budget will envision more funding for space programs and several new programs, which the government will discuss on June 17. The Finance Ministry official said the government meeting will also address federal programs that will be financed out of the 2005 federal budget and the budgets of coming years. The Finance Ministry materials prepared for the June 17 government meeting state that the total expenditures on national defense in 2005 are expected to increase by 19.2% to 519.4 billion rubles and the expenditures on national defense and law enforcement activities by 18.9% to 388.3 billion rubles.
