Russian ship free to continue journey after paying fine to Georgia
Tbilisi, 17 June: The Georgian side "has no longer any complaints against the Tsirkon cargo ship sailing under the Russian flag" after it has paid a fine. The ship was impounded in Georgia's territorial waters for violating international navigation regulations, ITAR-TASS learnt today from Davit Tsintsadze, the head of the investigations branch of the Georgian [state] border [protection] department's coastguard service, who was in Batumi. Representatives of the ship's owners paid a fine of 50,000 lari (26,000 dollars) in Batumi, and at 1830 Moscow time [1430 gmt] the ship left the port of Batumi for its port of destination, Azov.
