HYUNDAI MOTOR TOPS IN RUSSIAN AUTO SALES IN MAY
SEOUL, June 17 Asia Pulse - Hyundai Motor Co. (KSE:005380), South Korea's largest automaker, said Thursday it has recorded the largest sales among the world's car manufacturers in Russia in May. The South Korean automaker sold 3,596 vehicles in Russia last month, beating Toyota, which had held the No. 1 position in the market, for the first time, Hyundai Motor said. Just two years ago, Hyundai ranked 10th by sales in the Russian market. In the first five months of the year, Hyundai Motor sold a total of 13,481 units, more than three times the figure recorded during the corresponding period last year, it added. Hyundai Motor sold 14,451 vehicles during the whole of last year. Buoyed by robust growth, Hyundai Motor raised its sales target 140.4 per cent to 35,000 units this year. The automaker said it will increase the annual production capacity of its Russian plant to 35,000 units from the current 15,000. (Yonhap)
