16 June 2004 14:55 China interested in joint investment projects with Russia - envoy The Chinese-Russian trade and economic forum held within the 15th Harbin international fair discussed further
strengthening of strategic partnership relations between Russia and China, Russian ITAR-TASS agency reported on 16
June.
"Russian-Chinese relations should not be limited by trade alone. Investment cooperation should be made a
priority," said Konstantin Pulikovskiy, the presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District and the head of
the Russian delegation at the forum, addressing the forum participants. "Our cooperation should be aimed at
creating joint ventures involved in the deep processing of natural resources with further sales of competitive products,
as well as implementing projects in transport infrastructure and energy, oil, gas and coal production and
transportation," he added.
"There is a trend in China to speak about intensifying investment cooperation, and not only trade. From this
point of view the fair and the forum yielded very positive results," Russian trade attache in China Sergey
Tsyplakov told ITAR-TASS. "Russia's performance at the forum was good, it was represented on a much larger
scale, as compared to 2003," he said and added that the Russian Far East presented more than 60 investment projects
at the forum. He named the construction of two pulp and paper combines in Chita Region and Khabarovsk Territory, a
soya-processing project in the Jewish Autonomous Republic, a logistics centre linking Maritime Territory and China, as
well as a border trade complex in Maritime Territory as most attractive projects.
