16 June 2004 10:39 Russia poised to train Chechen election officials for presidential poll Moscow, 16 June: The Russian CEC [Central Electoral Commission] will help to train all chairmen of the territorial
electoral commissions that have already been formed to hold an early Chechen presidential election, head of the Russian
CEC Aleksandr Veshnyakov told journalists today.
The training will be carried out at approximately the beginning of July and involve direct travel to the region, he
noted.
Aleksandr Veshnyakov recalled that the nomination of candidates is currently taking place as part of the early
Chechen presidential election. It will last until 14 July. In accordance with the law, 10 days are given over to
checking documents. In this way the number and names of the candidates who will be listed on the ballot papers on 29
August will be decided by approximately 24-25 July.
