16 June 2004 07:36 Prosecutors` intervention results in paying wage arrears in Russia`s Urals Tyumen, 16 June: The prosecutors of the Urals Federal District have taken additional measures to increase the level
of managers' responsibility for paying wage arrears.
Wage arrears totalling R11m [approximately 380,000 dollars] were paid to the staff of the Yugrales [lumber] joint
stock company in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area as a result of prosecutors' intervention, the press service of
the deputy Russian Prosecutor-General in the Urals Federal District told RIA.
In the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area wage arrears amounting to R4m were paid to the staff of the Salekhardremstroy
[construction] company on the same day as the case against the company's chief accountant had been referred to the
court. Wage arrears totaling R21m were paid in the Salekhardenergo [energy] company immediately following
prosecutors' intervention.
A total of 15 criminal cases was started by prosecutors in the last seven days. One of them entailed the arrest of
Vladimir Demin, the general director of the Yamal-Gis-Servis [geology] company, charged with non-payment of R13.7m to
his staff.
Referred to the court were 16 managers' cases incurring disqualification, 45 protests were filed, 157
representations and 70 admonitions were made. This resulted in payment of wage arrears totaling R120m.
