Putin asks Chechen minister and presidential hopeful to keep up good work
[Presenter] Today Chechen Interior Minister Alu Alkhanov told Russian President Vladimir Putin that he had decided to take part in the [Chechen] presidential election to continue the course of deceased Akhmat Kadyrov. He asked Putin to appoint [Chechen special-purpose police commander] Ruslan Alkhanov as acting interior minister for the duration of the election campaign. Putin said that he would not relieve Alkhanov of his duties, including that of setting up a mechanism of public control over money allocated for Chechnya's restoration and compensations for destroyed housing, even for the time of the campaign. [Putin] We have more than once discussed issues related to Chechnya's development and restoration. As the interior minister, you have managed to organize work to put things in order; you also treat people with consideration. I do not relieve you of these duties and ask you to continue this work.
