15 June 2004 16:44 Staff of Russian NTV`s "Namedni" to launch new programme [Presenter] Deputy director of NTV Aleksandr Gerasimov is in a link-up with us, he will talk about the latest
developments in the company. I am passing him on to Kseniya Larina.
[Correspondent] Aleksandr, hello, I am Kseniya Larina.
[Gerasimov] Hello.
[Correspondent] So you have had a staff meeting with the "Namedni" [Leonid Parfenov's weekly current
affairs programme shut down on 1 June] team ?
[Gerasimov] It was rather a briefing than a meeting. We discussed what we will do in the new season and the staff of
the now defunct "Namedni" programme have made a proposal. Tatyana Rostislavovna Mitkova was there with me. We
accepted their proposal.
The decision is as follows - a new programme will start broadcasting on Sunday 5 September [2004], the first week of
the new season. It will be called "Profession: Reporter". This is our brand name which has existed for almost
10 years. The programme will be 52 minutes long, almost an hour, and will consist of four to five stories 12-15 minutes
long each.
The whole staff are eager to work: journalists, editors, producers. Everybody is keen on starting to work.
[Correspondent] Who will present the programme?
[Gerasimov] We have not decided yet whether there will be a presenter or a correspondent. This will be similar to
CBS' "Sixty Minutes". We have decided to consult our sociologists first so that they could investigate
what the audience expects of us.
[Correspondent] I see, but they can't decide on the subjects for you, can they? Somebody has to make the
programme attractive for the audience.
[Gerasimov] There is editorial staff and the chief editor of the programme, Nikolay Kartoziya, whose experience and
creativity we have no reasons to doubt. He will act as the programme's moderator, as it were.
[Correspondent] Aleksandr, another question. You have said that all the staff of the [closed] "Namedni"
programme are ready to work in the new format. So, nobody has left or said that they are going to leave?
[Gerasimov] No. Given the situation, I asked them at the start of our meeting: "Colleagues, has anyone of you
taken any decision about whether they want to continue working at our TV channel?" All said that they want to keep
working.
