15 June 2004 16:38 Eight candidates registered for Chechen presidential election Groznyy, 15 June: The eighth candidate for the post of Chechen president has been registered, the Chechen electoral
commission has told RIA.
"Yesterday [14 June] Khuseyn Bibulatov, a resident of the town of Elektrogorsk, submitted documents for
registration as a candidate for the post of president of the republic," the commission said.
The commission said that Bibulatov had taken part in the last presidential election and gained less that five per
cent of the vote.
"Until the collapse of the Soviet Union Bibulatov was the chairman of Chechnya's Gosplan [state planning
committee] and then served as first secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union's regional committee in
Nozhay-Yurtovskiy District," the commission said.
Earlier the electoral commission registered the following candidates for the post of president: Marat Zaynalabirov, a
doctor from Rostov; Sultan Ayskhanov, a surgeon and assistant to State Duma deputy Aleksandr Malyshkin; Adam Edilov, a
lawyer from Groznyy; Malik Saydulayev, a businessman from Moscow; Mariat Garchkhanova, a resident of Urus-Martan; Vakhit
Visayev from Nozhay-Yurt; and Magomet Aydamirov, a businessman from Tolstoy-Yurt.
The Chechen presidential election is scheduled for 29 August. The decision to hold it was taken after President
Akhmat Kadyrov was killed in a blast in Groznyy on 9 May.
Candidates can come forward until 14 July.
