15 June 2004 10:53 Russian aircraft factory begins production of international standard aircraft Voronezh, 15 June: The Voronezh Aircraft Company has started simultaneous production of six Il-96-300 passenger
planes, the company's general director, Vyacheslav Salikov, told ITAR-TASS.
He said that the expansion of operations at one of Russia's largest aircraft factories became possible following
the signing of a contract with the Ilyushin Finans company that envisages leasing out new aircraft to Russian airlines.
Previously the Voronezh Aircraft Company had been out of work for nearly 10 years, because Russian airlines could not
afford to pay for aircraft in full. The new model of financing has already enabled work to complete the first six planes
to resume. Two of the planes are soon to be handed over to Krasnoyarsk Airlines [KrasAir]. "The factory has
introduced a busy schedule, even at weekends some 1,500 people come to work," Salikov said.
The new Il-96-300 planes will meet all flight requirements, including those for international flights. They are
equipped with PS-90 engines manufactured at the Perm engine building plant. The manufacturing of six new planes will
allow dozens of Russia's factories to produce spare parts on order from Voronezh, Salikov said.
