14 June 2004 13:13 Russia to build new relations with newly elected European parliament - MP [Presenter] The chairman of the Russian Federation Council international affairs committee, Mikhail Margelov, has
tried to explain why Moscow needed to closely follow the elections to the European parliament.
[Margelov] Together with the European Commission, members of this particular European parliament will have to take
part in developing Europe's common foreign policy aimed at building new relations between the European Union and
its neighbours. Russia is definitely taking first place among the EU's neighbours, both in terms of its
significance, its size and its trade turnover. That is why it was so important for Russia to follow this campaign
closely, that is why it is important for Russia to build fundamentally new relations with the new composition of the
European parliament.
