11 June 2004 04:44 Putin calls for more order in banking system (Part 2) MOSCOW, June 11 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin said that order should be established in the Russian banking
system, but this should be done carefully.
Meeting with Central Bank Chairman Sergei Ignatyev on Friday, Putin said: "I ask you to act carefully. I hope
you are not going to conduct any simultaneous mass mopping-up campaigns in the whole banking system."
The president asked Ignatyev about the Central Bank's plans connected with "the prevention of money
laundering and bringing order to the banking system."
Putin stressed that "one should not forget about the interests of depositors" and recalled that "the
law on securing the interests of depositors will begin fully functioning in the nearest future." [RU EUROPE ASIA
