Alrosa to invest $23Mln in Angolan power plant
MOSCOW. June 11 (Interfax) - Russia's largest diamond producer Alrosa will spend $23 million in 2004 to build a hydroelectric power plant in Angola, says a company press release. The $45 million hydroelectric power plant, which will have a capacity of 16 megawatt, will begin operation in late 2005. The facility will allow the building of the second section of the Catoca mining enterprise, which will help raise uncut diamond output to $350 million a year. The hydroelectric plant will also supply electricity to the Kamachia and Kamajiku diamond fields as part of the Luo project. Alrosa is currently engaged in three projects in Angola: the Catoca company, the Luo diamond field, and the hydroelectric plant. [RU EUROPE EEU EMRG ENK] tm tl
