11 June 2004 23:46 British Council prepared to submit financial reports (part 2) MOSCOW. June 11 (Interfax) - The British Council will make financial reports on its activities in Russia available to
the Russian Federal Economic and Tax Crimes Service.
"British Council and Russian Federal Economic and Tax Crimes Service officials met on Thursday and reached an
understanding on the transfer of documents. The format for the documents still has to be chosen," service press
secretary Tatiana Mironenko told Interfax on Friday.
"In effect, this conflict that has flared up for no good reason can be regarded as resolved," she said.
Russian law enforcement agencies had given the British Council until June 9 to submit reports to them on the
organization's financial activities in Russia to decide on the taxes and other mandatory payments the Council is to
make.
The Tax Crimes Service expects to receive the British Council's financial reports soon.
"We hope that it will produce the proper documents promptly, as all law-abiding commercial institutions in
Russia do. We won't be giving the council preferential treatment. Besides, it has already once failed to meet the
deadline set for submitting reports," Mironenko said. [RU EUROPE ASIA EMRG CRIM GB] ap ml aw <>
