44 workers continuing hunger strike in Rostov region
Viktor Salnikov, a representative for the striking workers, told Interfax that 21 people are taking part in the hunger strike in the Rostov region town of Shakhty and another 23 in the town of SHAKHTY/NOVOSHAKHTINSK. June 11 (Interfax-South) - Forty-four workers from two subsidiaries of Rostovugol are still on hunger strike. Novoshakhtinsk over the Rostovugol administration's failure to pay the workers' back wages and make payments to the pension fund. Nelli Posylnaya, director of the Shakhty City Hall's information department, told Interfax that the Rostov region's Industry, Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Sergei Nazarov, had met with the participants in the hunger strike on Wednesday. Nazarov said that he was searching for ways to make overdue payments to the pension fund. "These payments will definitey be made," Posylnaya said. Nazarov also promised to repay all wage arrears to the Shakhty plant's employees. Twenty-nine workers at another Rostovugol subsidiary, the Shakhty construction company, ended their hunger strike after they were given all back wages owed them. [RU EUROPE EEU EMRG LEG POL] tm aw
