12 June 2004 17:25 Duma official describes Iran as Russia`s strategic partner in world of Islam Moscow, 12 June: Iran is the strategic and major partner of Russia in the world of Islam, said deputy head of the
Industries and Technological Sciences Commission at State Duma, Yuri Savilov, in an interview with IRNA in Moscow.
Asked to comment on the US negative attitude towards Russia's nuclear cooperation with Iran, Savilov said he was
proud of the Russian president for his independent policy based national interests on international arena.
Savilov said: Russia's foreign policy is based on its national interests.
He said: Moscow does not support the US policy of putting pressure and dictating its views to Russia.
While the West is eying Russia's natural resources, Iran and Muslim states favour technical and scientific
cooperation with Russia, said the Russian Duma official.
